And Then There was Hank

So much for just the girls. Hank, the cow dog, showed up Tuesday morning to mess with my quiet week. Hank can sometimes take issue with male dogs that want to wrestle with him. I have to keep a close eye on him. But it turns out that he is happy to let the girls beat the tar out of him.

Dusty, Emma, and Nuray are all taking advantage of a boy dog that they can catch.

Meg is a Great Chaser of Balls

I only found this out after I started throwing balls to keep Boudin and Hank occupied. Only it was Meg that shot out like a bullet and got the ball before those two big dogs.

She even brings the ball back.

Herders and Worriers

With Cloe and Sassy, I got one of each.

Canine Mathematics:
Worrier + Herder(Runners + Players) = Barking

Lots of barking.

Whenever a Herder seeing anything running that they are not steering, it is just WRONG. Their point of view is that, "Be it sheep, kids, or other dogs, nothing should be running anywhere that I am not telling it where to go." Just think of them as canine control freaks. Cleo is a Herder and having BB, Hank, Boudin, Meg, and Amica racing around the play yard without Cloe's permission is just too much for her to take.

She is the little black dog voicing her displeasure at all this unsupervised running in the video.

Her brother, Sassy, is a Worrier. Their logic runs more toward, "With all this rough housing, someone is going to get hurt and it might be me - so it all must stop! Now!"

If you have a bad habit, please don't pass it on!

Boozer likes to scratch up the dirt and fling his poop when he is finished. This is a pain for me. Flung poop is much harder to retrieve in its entirety. Plus, the last thing I need is more of my play yard turned into dust. We finally had some rain and the dust turned back into dirt. The basic running and chasing will turn it back into a dust bowl in no time, Boozer, don't help it along!

And really, did you have to teach the technique to Flip, Sassy, Hank and Maki?

DEMON DOGS!

I thought the flash might help me capture the bedtime action but instead it turned all my charges into demon dogs.

And sometimes I can take a picture

Check out this one of Hank.

Of course, that was the only good shot of the before mentioned 60+ shots.

Are You Playing or Not?

I was just asking myself that question with the dogs I have this weekend. I just can't decide if Harley, Miss Daisy, and Davey are playing with Terry or getting sick of this non-stop motion, and puppy lack of impulse control, steering and manners.

It made me think of the week with Hank and Bandit. By Friday, I knew they had made friends but for the first couple of days I kept separating them. I knew the Hank was just playing but I also knew that Hank was oblivious to the fact that Bandit was not.

The little bit of a dog is Cuddles, Bandit's little sister. And like any little sister worth her salt, she would dart in whenever Hank and Bandit were wrestling and bit her big brother on the ankle.

I have stuck the camera in my coat so I won't forget it for the next play time.

I was thinking that Hank and Terry would make an excellent match. I hope that works out sometime. I won't forget the camera for that match up.
